Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa ★★★
The poshest hotel at the poshest address in Bath
If you can swing the price tag, the place to stay in Bath is bang in the middle of one of the city’s architectural triumphs at the Royal Crescent Hotel.
For what are really reasonable prices, you get to live in that restrained Georgian splendor for a few days with luxuriant custom-built mattresses, a spa, private boat, and hot air balloon at your disposal.
In fiction, this was once the address of "The Scarlet Pimpernel," a sort of reverse Robin Hood of this time, posing as a Georgian Bath society dandy and fop but in secret helping members of the French nobility keep their heads attached to their bodiess by spriting them out of France during the Reign of Terror following the French Revolution.
(In reality, it was once rented and then purchased by Prince Frederick, the second son of King George III, which is how the word "Royal" got added to the name of this "Crescent.")
