This riverside inn just 10 minutes from the rail station and five minutes from the cathedral is a Wetherspoons, part of a chain of inexpensive hotels (and pubs) where rates rarely top £85 (and run as low as £49 on Sundays).

The rooms are contemporary, with a dark color scheme that would look better if there were a bit more natural light. Still: tiny quibbles for such great prices in the city center.

There are also family rooms sleeping four, with a trundle bed for the kiddos, that only cost about £15 more than a double.

The modern pub downstairs is nice enough, though its food is uninspired.

One drawback: The closest (paid) parking lot is about a ten-minute walk away, so budget another £20 for that if you have a car.
