The Mercure has a great location across from the Salisbury Cathedral, with a lovely cobbled court lined by vine-draped walls and a lovely Georgian entrance.

The interior, however, is all contemporary befitting the style of this mid-scale Accor chain. For such standardized comforts and a brilliant city-center location, the price is pretty good.

That said, the rooms could stand a bit of an update, and the friendliness/alacrity of the staff can be hit-or-miss. You also won't be writing home about this particular English breakfast (and don't bother with the hotel restaurant for other meals).

Still, if you are looking for decent rates on a coporate chain hotel bang in the middle of the action in Salisbury, the Mercure is a safe bet.
